NEW BOOK COMING EARLY 2024!
The Moth, a children's book by NC artist and author Chris Musina coming early next year!
A wayward moth embarks on a quiet journey in search of the moon. The Moth is a charming, melancholic, Sisyphean, and yet hopeful tale written and illustrated by artist Chris Musina. This book was conceived when Musina was taking part in a writing residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the cold of February 2022. It truly came into form when Jefferson Holt, the force behind Daniel 13 took an interest and brought book designer Dave Wofford of Horse & Buggy Press on board. This is Musina’s first widely published foray into children’s literature, previously having written and illustrated a Covid inspired webcomic for Rescue Party Comics, and illustrated Tracy Walks Slowly (2009), a short story written by his friend Canadian Actor and Musician Nobu Adilman.
Chris Musina is a Canadian born, Florida raised, artist / illustrator / writer who has exhibited his paintings and drawings across North America. He has illustrated album covers and t-shirt art for musicians such as Rathbone, C. Albert Blomquist, and DJ Buddyhead, as well as through his own imprint. He has also animated, illustrated and made props for commercials and television - from the quirky Canadian cooking show Food Jammers to multiple HGTV series and brands from Publix to Timberland. His work has received awards from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Culture & Animals Foundation, Nissan Canada and the Puffin Foundation, and he recently was a writer in residence at the Vermont Studio Center (where this book was conceived and outlined). His paintings, drawings, and writings have been published in New American Paintings, Beautiful Decay, Antennae: The Journal of Nature & Visual Culture, among others. He holds a BFA from the University of South Florida and an MFA from the University of North Carolina. He currently lives and works in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
